The Nature of Fife Inventory
Fife supports over 10,000 species within its 132,000 ha and surrounding marine environment, with many additional species not yet recorded or indeed discovered!
Over 400 of these are considered notable with regard to nature conservation, many on an international level.
Fife Nature maintain a list of all of Fife’s known species, annotated with brief notes on their distribution and local importance; this list is known as the ‘Nature of Fife Inventory’.
The Nature of Fife Inventory was first compiled several years ago, initially as an accompaniment to the book ‘The Nature of Fife’ edited by Gordon Corbet. It was produced with the aim of bringing together an annotated list of all of Fife’s species in one place, and making it easy to access and search.
The inventory is organised into groups of species and for each group there is a simple individual list of the species and their annotations. Each individual list also has a brief introduction to the group it refers to. Those lists that have been updated since 1998 can be found attached on the left hand menu along with an more detailed introductino to the inventory,
Fife Nature is currently looking to further update all existing lists and make them available online.
