Dalbeath Marsh Nature Reserve
Dalbeath Marsh is a former quarry site immediately west of Cowdenbeath. It is a Site of Special Scientific Interest (SSSI) in recognition of its locally and nationally important habitats, prinicipally open water, wetlands and grassland. Fife Coast and Countryside Trust Ranger Service and the "Friends of Dalbeath Marsh" manage the site for education and access value.
The site includes wetland and herb-rich, neutral grassland within which can be found: poor fen, willow carr, fen meadow, open-water and pockets of mixed woodland. Species that can be found may include Greater Tussock-sedge, Spotted and Marsh Orchids, and Greater Butterfly Orchids. The variety of sedges, grasses, aquatic and heath plants make the site particularly notable.
