History

The proposal for a biological records centre for Fife was first put forward by Fife Regional Council in its Charter for the Environment Action Programme 1991/92, after receiving encouragement from Scottish Natural Heritage. Subsequent discussions with various interest groups indicated strong support for the proposal and a willingness to provide data to the centre. Thus, Fife’s first local biological records centre came into being in October 1992. Fife Nature Records Centre remained part of Fife Council until July 2008 when FNRC was relocated from Fife Council’s Environmental Services to the Fife Coast & Countryside Trust (FCCT).
Since its inception, Fife Nature Records Centre (FNRC) has evolved significantly but the aim remains focussed on maintaining an easily accessible, up-do-date and high quality biological information resource.
